Autumn Newsletter 2025
Autumn 2025 Edition | Warmth, Friendship, and Community
Enjoy the Colours of Autumn. As the trees turn golden and red, we’re soaking in the beauty of the season. Soon the leaf rakes will be packed away, but for now we’re enjoying every moment!
Dear Residents, Families, and Friends
As the seasons shift, so too does the atmosphere here at Fergusson. From crisp starts to the day with heaters turned up high—only to be followed by sunny afternoons that have us scrambling to cool down again! We’re hoping for a mild winter.
Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to, and a peek at what’s ahead.
What We’ve Been Up To
Residents’ Favourite - Housie
Housie Takes Priority!
Our weekly Housie sessions continue to reign supreme. Some residents are so dedicated that everything else—haircuts, blood tests, even family visits—must be planned around Housie!
Remembering and Celebrating Mothers
This month included several heartfelt activities to commemorate Mother’s Day. Everyone has a mother, many of our ladies have been mothers themselves—but we also acknowledge that not all family relationships are easy.
Faith and Fellowship
We are grateful for the continued support of local churches, who help us hold regular on-site services. These moments of reflection and connection mean so much to our residents.
Special Highlights
🎖️ ANZAC Day: Honouring Service and Sacrifice
Our ANZAC Service was a touching occasion. Residents gathered to pay tribute, and a particularly special moment was the presentation of a letter of appreciation to Cyril Hart from King Charles in recognition of his service during WWII. These services always tug at the heartstrings, and our community was proud to honour the day together.
Health & Wellbeing
Tips for Staying Healthy this Autumn:
Wear layers to stay warm during chilly mornings and evenings.
Keep up fluid – hydration is just as important in cooler weather
Wash hands frequently to reduce the spread of seasonal colds.
Looking Ahead
Wacky Wednesday - 28th May
We’re looking forward to Wacky Wednesday, where staff and residents are encouraged to wear something quirky, colourful, or completely out-of-the-box! Laughter and creativity guaranteed.
Kings Birthday Celebration - 30th May @ 10.15am
There will be an English morning to celebrate our King’s Birthday.
Horses Visiting - 30th May @ 1.30pm
We have two horses visiting us, residents will be able to pat and maybe feed the horses a carrot.
Mātariki
Mātariki Celebrations for the Māori New Year (19-22 June).
International Nurses Day – Bandages and Belly Laughs!
International Nurses Day saw our residents unleashing their creative sides in a rolling bandage competition, judged on speed and presentation.
The game soon evolved into “Guess What My Bandage Is?” with Thelma winning the day with her clever Ice Cream cone bandage!
The fun continued with residents bandaging up the staff - resulting in two “broken” wrists, a torn calf, a “fractured” ankle, and an impressively wrapped head injury!
Fun Activities
Moments that Matter
Check the photos on the walls in the foyer outside the lounge, family members can request an electronic copy of the photo from Nicky or Amber at reception.
Friendship and Community
It’s been lovely to see many of our residents forming deep friendships. Whether chatting over tea or helping each other with daily routines, their kindness and camaraderie are a joy to witness.
Some of our Birthday Celebrations
We enjoy celebrating our residents’ birthdays. On the big day, their rooms are decorated, they are presented with a decorated birthday cake to share and candle to blow out. They also receive a small gift.
Please feel welcome to join us and your loved one in these celebrations on their special day. Morning tea and cake sharing is at 10.15am.
Village Residents
The Village AGM was held in April, it was chaired by the Statutory Manager and well attended by the unit holders.
