Winter Newsletter 2024

Dear Residents, Families, and Friends

As Christmas rapidly approaches and 2024 draws to a close, we wanted to take a moment to extend our warmest season’s greetings to you all, and to express our deepest gratitude to each of you for being a part of our extended family/whanau. Your presence has contributed greatly to the atmosphere at Fergusson Home.

STAFF UPDATES

We welcome a number of new staff to the Fergusson Team

Sophia Lim has joined us as a permanent Health Care Assistant, and Sophie Toa and Ana Bognot as casual Health Care Assistants. Please join us in welcoming them to our team.

We have recently said goodbye to Ashish Malik, Baylie Edwards and Kathryn Keaney Edwards.

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING?

We have been doing some work in the Rose Garden area outside of the lounge.  Roy, one of the maintenance team, and his helper Nanette have given the gazebo a makeover.

New furniture has been purchased for the balcony area, Bruce is enjoying some sunshine on one of the new bench seats.

VILLAGE RESIDENTS

Our village unit holders enjoyed a festive Christmas morning tea with each other, it was lovely to have such a great turnout.  They were joined by Les from of our maintenance team, and Christine and Lee from the management team.

For those residents going away, we wish you a very special time with families and friends.

We look forward to seeing you all in 2025.

ACTIVITIES

Season’s Greetings Residents and Families/Whanau.

We are coming to the end of the festive celebrations and activities this year. All residents were welcomed to decorate the three trees we have up in the facility – it is a pleasure watching them working away as a team, chatting about Christmases of old. It was also really nice to share what we do to celebrate Christmas with our non-kiwi staff – maybe they will adopt some of our festive traditions?

Our festive craft activity was re-purposing dominoes from   incomplete  sets to make Christmas decorations, which are now hanging on the tree in the lounge. Thanks to Les (one of the maintenance team) for drilling holes in about 90 dominoes!

Each year, we also make a Christmas Cake which is also very much a hands- on activity!

We had a fabulous Christmas party for the residents on the 6th December, with a traditional meal prepared by Sandy and Rowena. Our awesome team helped the residents get dressed festively for the event and Mr and Mrs Claus visited with their Christmas dog reindeer. At the completion of the meal, many of the residents firstly enjoyed the singing, and then truly got into the spirit of Christmas and danced with the staff.

I wish everyone a fantastic Christmas: whether you spend it with your natural family or your Fergusson family. I look forward to 2025 at Fergusson and treating you all to my singing...

Nicky
